An Idea Whose Time Has Come
I think the idea of BYOD is a good one at the intermediate level of grade school, middle school and high school. You are able to more with technology when students can bring in their own devices. You are not limited to the technology that the school district can provide. I am nervous about trying BYOD in my kindergarten classroom. I think it could work, but I worry about how they can care for such expensive tools at school. As a parent, I wouldn't want my 7 year old bring an expensive device to school. Older children can handle the responsibility of caring for expensive devices. I think it is a lot of responsibility to put on a young child.

Take the risk! I see what my 1st and 3rd grade can do and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI see what kids are doing around the district and I think there are options for our younger kids. Right now we have just about 25% of our kids in the district connecting their own devices to our wifi. This is a trend that will only increase.
Maybe the younger kids could start with documenting some observations. Many of the devices take pictures and video. Science observations?
